I downloaded ies4linux-latest.tar.gz but it is not working.
Then i tried IE6.exe but it asked wine.
Then i installed wine. But i dont know to update it. i tried "sudo apt-get update". But it is not yet updated.

Now, plz tell me the way to install IE or to update wine on ubuntu..

Dont use IE4

Post  Admin on Fri Jul 30, 2010 10:12 am

My first sugestion for you would be, that dont try installing any window compliant software on your linux box.
There are plenty of alternative software available in linux itself. Only things is that you need to search for it.
But if you really want to run windows compliant software then try crossoffice instead of wine. Because wine is a test project and it has lot of bugs in it thus it doesnt garantee that you can successfully run a windows built software. Whereas crossoffice is good, I have been using it for a year and it works fine...ofcourse for full version of crossoffice you need to PAY.

There are still handfull of open source browser available in the net which is far better than IE4. IE4 is the one of the oldest webbrowser of late 90's and it doesnt support most of the programming language , flash, graphics, ..it doesnt even support youtube or google.com.website.
So why try installing a crappy browser when you have other choice.

So try using other software like
1) flock One of the best alternative for firefox www.flock.com
2) opera Best opensource browser www.opera.com
3) seamonkey www.seamonkey-project.org

If you need any assistance installing the browser like flock and other please continue the thread....
